By Harvard ClassicsThe Harvard Classics Volume 16: Stories from the Thousand and One Nights
This is the 1909 hardcover volume #16 from the Harvard Classics set. The Arabian Nights Entertainments as translated by Edward W. Lane with historical introductions and notes and b/w illustrations. It is one of the great story books of the world first introduced by the French scholar Galland who discovered the original Arabic story. History talks about an early 10th century writing of a Persian collection of a thousand tales which presents the framework of this classic. The real origin is lost in history. There was in ancient times a King of India and China who owned numerous troops and servants. He had 2 sons who inherited a kingdom. Each ruled with justice for 20 years. These are some of the stories that came from the travels and adventures of the sons.
