Franchising has seen rapid growth in recent years in the UK, with an estimated 750 franchising systems operating in all manner of trades from photographic processing to drain clearing and courier deliveries. As businesses increasingly concentrate on their core activities, and individuals want to run their own busness with the security of backing by a recognised brand, franchising is often seen as the solution. Over 325,000 people are now employed in franchised businesses and it is seen as an attractive career path for many who face redundancy or whose jobs have been outsourced. In a recent survey, 40% of members of the British Franchising Association admitted to difficulty attracting sufficient franchisees of the right calibre, so publication of this guide explaining the system in accessible terms will be a benefit both to potential franchisees, as well as the franchisors themselves, who will be a secondary market for this book. The book concentrates on the 'how to' aspects of franchising including how to locate, evaluate and secure the right franchise opportunity - rather than the theoretical approach of some other books. Sources of information for a number of countries are included, and coverage of financial implicatiions which have international application, although the commentary on legal aspects will focus on the UK situation. It encourages realism by pointing out potential difficulties and pitfalls as well as the benefits of franchising Most of the existing books on franchising are aimed mainly at a US audience and are more expensive than teach yourself Franchising. The small business sector is one where the teach yourself format and approach is particularly successful and this title will become a mainstay of the business list. Published By on 2006
