Love and death of young aid workers marooned in the refugee camp in Africa searching for a place where they belong. They were torn between humanity and justice when they realized that the camp was controlled by ruthless killers whom they are helping as refugees.KEN OKADA, a young Japanese doctor, returns to Africa for a soul-searching journey after stop practicing medicine following the death of a young Angolan refugee girl in Zambia. In Nairobi, Kenya he meets Kenyan doctor BENJAMIN MWANGI leader/founder of the local medical organisation ACES and the beautiful American PR officer STACY SUMMERS. Ken reluctantly joins Ben's team and heads to a refugee camp in a remote border town of western Tanzania.6th April 1994, deaths of the Rwandan and Burundi presidents changes Ken's life, ACES staff members and that of millions of Rwandans forever. The genocide has started: about a million ethnic Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed brutally over a hundred days. Then, ACES and the young aid workers are challenged by the human tsunami that hits Tanzania when more than 250,000 Rwandan refugees crossed the border in 24 hours. Slowly but surely, the violence overtakes camp life. By maintaining the political structure that organized the genocide, Hutu refugee leaders exploit their compatriots by torturing them and syphoning aid goods in the hope to take back the country, now lost to Tutsi rebels. Security in the camp exacerbates especially when one of the high profile Hutu extremist Jean-Baptiste Gatete "the Butcher of Murambi" enters the camp. Alarmed, some aid agencies hold a 'humanitarian strike' to pressurize the UNHCR who are in charge of assisting the refugees to provide proper protection, especially for refugees who are under threat. As Ken and the aid workers grapple with the reality that the refugees are genociders, their conscience is torn by the dilemma between justice and humanity: which has priority? Can aid workers justify themselves assisting killers? Do they have a choice to make?Pursuing the neutrality of the assistance, ACES conducts a mission to establish a link with the new RPF government in Kigali, Rwanda. During the challenging trip, Ken has a breakthrough: he eventually puts his past aside. However, the tragic death of Stacy tests his cause. Finally, the team finds an alternative to the moral dilemma regarding their by moving into Rwanda and encourage the reconstruction and repatriation of refugees.Based on true story of adventures of the author, starting from then the largest refugee camp in the world; Benaco, Tanzania, to Kigali the bustling Rwandan capital now turned ghost town, and to the cholera-ridden refugee camp of Goma, Zaire, their adventures encounter dreadful events that brutally tainted Africa in the last decade of the twentieth century.
