Blossom Bit by Bit

By

Blossom Hayes was born on Plenty Hell, a Mississippi plantation, in the 1940s. She draws a colorful & detailed picture of her childhood in this inspirational autobiography. It is the heartwarming story of a sharecropper's daughter who overcomes poverty, discrimination & learning disabilities to become a teacher & well-respected physician. She sets an example for young people hopeful of creating an enriched life. Blossom attends school on rainy days or when the cotton fields lay fallow. She is humiliated by her classmates. Mama comforts & encourages her "apt" child to graduate high school. "Embarrassment is no hindrance to a child who wants to learn," she says. On the senior trip to Washington D.C., Blossom's high school deficiencies surface. Determined to achieve excellence, she develops unique ways to overcome educational disadvantages & learning disabilities. She guides us through her trials as a misguided follower of an unscrupulous religious leader, as a teacher accused of hostility & petitioned to resign, & as a critically injured student physician. This story proves that anyone with the desire, determination & ability can achieve success & self-sufficiency
