About Michael New

Michael New was born and raised in the small town of New Lisbon, Indiana, where his experiences were rural in an old-fashioned way: creeks and woods, outhouses, and ladies at church with flowers on their dresses. With the help of some marvelous teachers, New won a scholarship to DePauw University, where he studied Greek and Latin and spent a year in New York City, apprenticed to James T. Farrell. During his senior year in college, New's story "Wooden Hands" was published.

After college, New worked as managing editor of The Country Gentleman magazine and as an associate editor for the Saturday Evening Post, where his story "The Anniversary" was published. A year after leaving Curtis Publishing, Addison-Wesley published New's book The Year of the Apple. The following year, New was runner-up in the Victoria Chen Hader fiction contest. As a freelance writer, New has published fiction and nonfiction in a variety of magazines and newspapers.
