A View of the Mountains
By Morris GibsonWe find doctors Morris and Janet Gibson and their daughter Catriona about to emigrate to the tiny town of Okotoks in the Canadian Rockies. Why Okotoks? "Okotoks has two O.K.s in it," reasons Janet, "so it's O.K. with me". Besides, the town needed a doctor. Setting up medical practice in this frontier town during the 1950s required adjusting to a new and very different way of life: office hours in a one-room schoolhouse, the annual Calgary Stampede, setting a bull's broken leg, winters that hovered at 30 degrees below. The adventures differed but the people were the same - hardworking, simple folk who understood the value of friendship.
