About Stewart M. Brooks
Stewart Marshall Brooks was born in Sidney, New York to William Maurice and Mable Clara Elliott Brooks and brother to Clayton E, Charles Kenneth, and Florence Irene. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1942 and then went to war, including D-Day and The Battle of the Bulge. He held a B.S. degree from the Albany College of Pharmacy and an M.S degree from the Philadelphia College of Science and Pharmacology.
He taught basic medical sciences to nursing students at Lasell College, Boston City Hospital and Newton Wellesley Hospital.
He wrote over 50 books, mostly on medical topics, including a children's book called The World of the Germs in 1970, as well as the first textbook designed for teaching the sciences to nursing students, Integrated Basic Science, in 1962. His final book published before his death was Lingua Medica, Everyone's Guide to Understanding Medical Terminology. His books have been translated into Spanish, Japanese, German, Hindi, and Brazilian Portuguese.
He was married to Natalie Ann Paynton Brooks (1927-2014), with whom he had one son, Stewart Marshall Brooks, Jr., called Marshall, and two grandchildren, Isaac (Zack) and Graham.
